Welcome First 5 Placer's Newest Commissioner! Maggie Steakley

Maggie Steakley is a public policy professional with over fifteen years of experience in education and early education policy and practice. As a second grade teacher in Oakland, she witnessed the power of strong public policy. As a Principal Associate with the Glen Price Group (GPG), she supports local, statewide, and national public and nonprofit organizations to maximize their results through effective collaboration, analysis, planning, and resource development. Through this work, Maggie seeks to contribute to a more just and equitable world and improved outcomes for all people, beginning at birth.

 

Her recent work focuses on ongoing policy development and implementation support for the California Department of Education related to Universal PreK (UPK) and Universal Transitional Kindergarten (TK); leadership for California’s Universal PreK Mixed Delivery Quality and Access Workgroup and associated Legislative report; facilitation, cost model development, recommendation development support for First 5 California's initial work, and ongoing work by the California Department of Social Services toward reimbursement rate reform and alternative methodology; and contributions towards the development of California’s Master Plan for Early Learning and Care.

Maggie holds a Master of Public Policy from the Goldman School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from the University of Vermont. She lives in Kings Beach with her husband and enjoys taking advantage of all that beautiful Lake Tahoe has to offer season round.
