Families are Strong and Connected: New Mourning Counseling

One client tested very high on the depression assessment. Mom’s pregnancy was unplanned, and she comes from a

childhood where her family was heavily impacted by drugs and alcohol, as well as a history with crime. She had trouble

with anger, a history of abuse, and troubled family. Her family includes herself, husband, teen son, teen foster son,

adult sister, and baby daughter. Through a combination of cognitive therapy, education, referrals to a nutritionist, role

play and relaxation, and art therapy, Mom has made a lot of progress and is now in her eighth  session... She and her

husband are talking more and becoming affectionate toward one another. Son said “I have my mother back.” She has

accepted part of the responsibility for the surprise pregnancy and is truly enjoying her new daughter. She and her

husband will soon attend a parenting class, and she has joined a self defense class. She plans on enrolling in a writing

class in the near future as a further outlet. She is active in AA and Alanon and is further rooted in her faith.

Safe Kids Placer County: Making Sure that Kids are Safe and Helping Out in Times of Need

In March, Safe kids Placer County was contacted by Placer Hills Fire Department informing us of an Auburn family who

were expecting their first child and in need of a car seat.  The father is a disabled Veteran and the family is on a very

limited budget. We were able to provide them with a seat that would accommodate a newborn and last up to 40lbs,

as well as the education on how to properly install and use the seat. They were very grateful for the car seat and

appreciated the one-on-one education about its use.
